We all remember the West Indies of the past, the likes of Marshall and Holding steaming in and more recently Walsh and Ambrose striking fear into openers and tailenders alike. But it wasn't just the bowlers that did the damage there was also the Master Blaster Viv Richards who could take the game away from you in an instant, not to mention Sobers who is considered the best allrounders of all time. But the current squad seem to have a certain reliance on the captain Lara.

However a few players are now standing up to be counted. Sarwan possibly their most consist  player now seems to have realized his potential and when he puts his mind to it he can hold his own against anyone and with the likes of opener Chris Gayle who can turn a game in few overs with aggressive style.

In Dwayne Bravo they have certainly unearthed a very talented allrounder. Tino Best and Fidel Edwards aren't the typical West Indies pacemen but with plenty of character and confidence as long as there are given time and productive coaching they have the potential to be one of the fiercest new ball partnerships in world cricket.

To present day and the ICC Champions trophy. After a well timed run chase after the South Africans and demolishing Pakistan they set up a final against the hosts. Brian Lara won the toss and put England into bat and despite a battling hundred from Trescothick and a cameo from Giles it was the West Indies who were on top. However Harmison and Flintoff removed the danger men so it was up to the novices to answer the call and from 147-8 another West Indian collapse threatened. Until an unlikely 71-run record 9th wicket partnership from Browne and Bradshaw they snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

Hopefully this win will spark a revival of the most famous cricketing side in the history of the game.

Enjoy.
